We have a number of Canadian Open Canoes each of which takes either two or three people. As with all of our activities, they are designed for those 8-years and over, however with Canadians it may be possible to take out 7-year olds if accompanied by a parent.
We run sessions for the absolute beginner up to courses leading to BCU three star. Longridge taster sessions are always a good experience for the first time paddler, they run throughout the day and evening from Easter until the Autumn and last for 75 minutes.
We also provide a hire service to groups and individuals who have relevant qualifications and experience, prices for which are available on application.
Our prices are based on groups of 8 led by a qualified instructor for a fun session or groups of 6 if working towards a BCU qualification.
For those wishing to broaden their experience we can offer courses based on the BCU syllabus (British Canoe Union). Go to courses to find out what we are running this year or ring Longridge on 01628 483252 to arrange a bespoke course for your group. Qualified and experienced instructors run our sessions and to retain our faultless safety record we insist on a minimum ratio of 1 instructor to 6 people

This is an internal assessment scheme designed to ensure that all those leading adventurous activities for young people within Scouting have the skills, experience and personal suitability to do so. The first such course will be for Open Canoeing
Open Canoeing - 0900 to 1600
This national Permit scheme is slowly replacing Scout Water Authorisations, and a Permit will soon be essential for Leaders who lead and supervise canoeing.
We are offering a Permit assessment course with Julian Fulbrook, a Longridge trustee and the UK Scout Association Technical Adviser for Open Canoeing. He is an Approved County Assessor, and as this is a national scheme he will be able to sign off the technical parts of Permits for Leaders from any part of the UK who are able to fulfil the appropriate standards with a practical assessment, theoretical assessment, and by showing appropriate logged experience.
As of 1 July 2008, funding is now available to assist anyone within Scouting to attend a Permit assessment course to obtain an adventurous activity permit. This funding pays for 50% of the assessment course, and also 50% of travel costs for a course. In return for this funding, applicants are required to carry out their role of an activity Permit holder running activities for Scouts for a minimum of two years.
Applications for this funding should be sent to Gilwell Park using the application form.
Further details on are available in a pdf on Canoeing Permits and their assessment.
