Longridge Fireworks 2010

Posted: 08/11/2010 09:44:52 | News Home

A HUGE thank you to all of you that supported Longridge by attending our firework party Saturday evening.  I really hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.  We will be of course now planning next year's party to be even better (if that is possible), with an even more spectaculor display.

By attending Saturday, you have helped raise enough money that we can with the additional help of Wycombe District Council, put a floor in on the top floor of our Training Centre and may be even one internal wall.  This means that from December this building will be operational and we will be only seeking funding for internal walls, equipment and furniture - a kitchen, bathroom upstairs and of course gym equipment!

Don't forget that an easy way of supporting Longridge is when shopping online to use  www.easyfundraising.org.uk website. If you select Longridge as your cause, it will donate money to Longridge to help finish our Training Centre.  Shops such as Marks and Spencer, Ebay, Amazon and Tesco are on there.

Thanks again and hope to see you here again soon.

Another amazing firework party, which delivered lots of entertainment and has raised a substantial sum towards completing our training centre.

Theresa May & Greg Searle open our new Training Centre

Posted: 27/09/2010 16:08:25 | News Home

Nearly 200 people filled the new training space, to hear speeches from Theresa, Greg and John Cove from Sport England, praising all that the centre has achieved and a heartfelt plea from Amanda, Longridge's Centre Director for donations to enable the space to be completed.

Following the speeches, we released hundreds of balloons provided by Lynn Boyes and then enjoyed some fantastic music from the young and talented musical group The Watermelon Men.

The evening was rounded off with the cutting of a cake model of Longridge, made by the very talented Louise Hammett and cut by Bill Bendyshe-Brown, Chairman of Wycombe District Council.

Our thanks to our guests, all our supporters and to Sidecar Communications who handled the media and organisation of the entire event.

We had a fantastic, well supported event on Friday to welcome Theresa and Greg to Longridge to open our new Training Centre

Family Festival - Steve Backshall

Posted: 26/08/2010 12:38:15 | News Home

Steve is best known for being a keen member of Longridge Canoe Club.  However when paddling allows, Steve Backshall is also the naturalist who reaches parts of the world others just can’t reach. He’s travelled to over 100 countries around the world making first ascents of remote jungle mountains or descending into hidden sinkholes in search of new species, climbing the world’s highest peaks or completing some of the world’s most demanding endurance races. Steve has continued to push back the boundaries of exploration whilst capturing it all on camera or in words.

His BBC natural history series ‘Deadly 60’ is being shown around the world, and is about to enter its third series. Whilst making the series, he has danced with thresher, tiger, bull and white sharks, come into contact with rattlesnakes, king cobras, mambas and giant pythons, and discovered such oddities as ghost bats, mantis shrimps, alligator snapping turtles and Humboldt Squid. In 2009, the series was nominated for two BAFTAS; best children’s presenter and best children’s factual series.

We are delighted that Steve will opening this event and our amazing Training Centre and hope you will join us on Monday to make the day even more wonderful.

Steve Backshall will be opening the event and use of the Training Centre at 1.30 on Monday August 30th.

Our thanks to all those very lovely pirates at 'fst The Group' for organising the day and for all those that supported it.  It all edges us even closer to achieving our 13m Team Swing - we now have £13,000 towards it, so only £12,000 to go.  We hope to be involved again next year and introduce some suitably pirate activities for all ages here too!

Marlow Pirate Day 2009

Posted: 22/05/2009 10:17:06 | News Home

Friday 29th May has been designated Marlow Pirate Day 2009 in an effort to raise funds to pay for a new 13m Team Swing at Longridge Outdoor Activity Centre, which for the past 50 years has provided a range of water sports and land based activities for young people of all abilities.

The High Street will be awash with a motley crew of fearsome swashbuckling sea dogs sporting an assortment of bandanas, gold ear-rings, eye patches, baggy trousers and maybe even the odd parrot and wooden leg.

The Ship in West Street will be holding an All-Day Pirate Party where grog can be washed down with special-recipe “pirate burgers”, the profits from entry will go to the centre.

Teams from Longridge will be out in force all day collecting money and with many local stores and businesses taking part it promises to be a fun-packed day.

“We are very grateful that so many local businesses and offices have entered into the spirit of the occasion by agreeing to dress up as pirates, all in the name of charity.” (Amanda Foister, Longridge Activity Centre)

Well shiver me timbers, hoist the Skull and Crossbones and watch out you lily-livered landlubbers! The Pirates are coming to Marlow town!
