Longridge is able to provide an affordable range of activities because of the support of our wonderful, dedicated group of volunteers. We are looking to add to this group with people who will support the centre and help shape our future.
Our volunteers are either highly trained water sports instructors who share their experience with our visitors or they make up one of the eight crews that alternate every 8th weekend and work with our small full-time staff to ensure that everything runs smoothly – some even do both jobs!
Each of our crews are very different, with some aimed at purely 14-18 year olds, the others for those 19+ – many new friendships result from being on crew!
Jobs are very wide ranging, hardly surprising as the site is so diverse and for all of them full training is provided. As part of a crew you could be cutting the grass, cooking, painting, maintaining boats, serving in the shop, running an event, liaising with visitors or helping with instruction.
In return for giving up their time, our volunteers are fed and boarded and actively encouraged to take advantage of our training courses and activities.
As well as gaining British Canoe Union (BCU) and Royal Yacht Association (RYA) qualifications, our young volunteers are also able to work towards a DofE Award and we are hoping soon to also be able to offer Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) qualifications.
